Basic Job Functions 

Sundt Construction's Sacramento Region Commercial Building Group is growing and looking to add a Virtual Construction Engineer to our Team.   This position is the technical source of modeling information for a variety of projects ranging from $20M in Value up to over $400M.  The person that fills this role will need to have a thorough knowledge of construction documents, specification, and shop drawings and also have the ability to create 3D/4D/5D models of any given project.


Ideally this person would be located in our Sacramento office and travel as needed throughout Northern California during the week. 


Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintains professional relationships with industry groups and software vendors and keeps up to date on current industry and software developments.
  2. Presents BIM presentations to industry and owner groups to help foster business development.
  3. Creates 3D models of Architectural, Structural and MEP systems.
  4. Trains virtual construction technicians and engineer positions in use of company approved software.
  5. Reviews bid scope documents for appropriate BIM language based on project delivery type and BIM deliverables.
  6. Meets with project team on-site at least bi-weekly to ensure that BIM efforts are being utilized in the field during construction.
  7. Virtually walks through the model, identifying elements that are out of place.
  8. Maintains model libraries using correct uniformat or masterformat codes.
  9. Participates in activities to support the company’s strategic planning efforts.


Minimum Job Requirements

  1. 4 year degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Architecture.
  2. 3+ years’ construction experience.
  3. 3+ years blue print/specification reading.
  4. 3+ years in Autocad/Revit/Navisworks/CPM scheduling software.
  5. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.

  2. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  3. Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis.
  4. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  5. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  6. Will interact with people and technology frequently during a shift/work day.
  7. Will use telephone, computer system, email, and other electronic devices on a frequent basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
